I recently received this message from Judith Singer regarding the upcoming 2012 Shandaken Art Tour. WCA members Wendy Grossman http://www.studio78online.com/ & Joan Hall http://www.joanhallcollage.com/site/HOME/Home.html will be representing the valley. For more information read on:
The 2012 Shandaken Art Studio Tour returns for its fifth year on July 21-22 with 46 artists, new sculpture gardens, and exhibits of work by dozens of local and regional artists. Artist studios will be open from 11 to 5 on both Saturday and Sunday, and local art galleries will be hosting their opening parties on Saturday night from 6 until 10. All events are free.
Among the artists new to the tour this year is Woodland Valley's own Joan Hall, a mixed media artist. She adds even more diversity to the wide variety of artwork already included in the tour, from lovely landscapes capturing the area's natural beauty to sculptures of creatures even more wild and wonderful than the ones actually roaming the mountains. From classic to folk to "heavy metal," this tour's got it all. Visit the tour website, www.ShandakenArt.com, to view examples of work from all of the artists and the current tour map. (Free maps are also available at many locations in the area.)
In addition to the studio openings, art lovers can enjoy the meet-the-artists receptions at The Arts Upstairs and Cabane Studios, both on Main St. in Phoenicia, starting at 6 pm on Saturday the 21st. During the days, assemblage artist Judith Singer is opening not only her studio but also her private collection of local and regional art, and the outdoor sculpture exhibits in Phoenicia at Mama's Boy Cafe and across from the Empire State Railway Museum, in Pine Hill at the Community Center, and in Highmount at 49A by the Galli-Curci Historic Museum will be open all day.
