The Shandaken Food Panty is providing food delivery to people who are at high risk for the COVID-19 virus. See the information below (click image to make it larger and easier to read) to find out where to call if you need food delivery. If you are well and can pick up your food the food pantry will be open from 10-12 at the Methodist Church in Phoenicia on Thursday. Everyone will be maintaining a safe distance but you can pick up supplies there.
Many local restaurants are offering takeout services. I know the Phoenicia Diner, The Peekamoose and Brio's are among them. The Emerson also has takeout services for breakfast Thursday - Monday. Call them to ask about ordering and payment. The Phoenicia Supermarket is providing free delivery to those at risk.
For those of you who are willing and able to donate to the Food Pantry you can go to the Town of Shandaken donate page on PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate/?token=5IPj9eCw5zXYZALMyQjIUBMrWgmIOB9CywsLWjEZNXw2KCOExg1IfGXLKcLWQI96MmvxKm&country.x=US&locale.x=US
There is great need so anything you can give would be much appreciated.
Lastly, although this doesn't have anything to do with food, I wanted you all to know that my internet service here at the end of the valley has been wonky. I tried to post yesterday when service suddenly disconnected and I lost my post. I was also unable to answer emails for a while. So please be patient with me. I am trying my best to get information posted but sometimes the great gods of the internet shut me down.

Fundrazr for Shandaken Food Pantry
There is a fund raising event going on for the Shandaken Food Pantry right now on Fundrazr. If you don't know what to get your friends or family members this holiday season why not make a donation in their name. It is the perfect gift for the man or woman who has everything. The food pantry does great work and right now the need is greatly outstripping their resources. So give as much as you can. And help them make a difference in our community

Shandaken Food Pantry
Recently Elizabeth Holland Kern contacted me regarding putting something up on this blog regarding The Shandaken Food Pantry. Here is her message. I think it is important in these hard economic times to support efforts like this in our community. Below are details on how to donate to them or get food if you are in need.
"The Shandaken Food Pantry recently changed its schedule from every Thursday to only the last Thursday of the month, from 10am-12pm. I called Jane Todd, who runs the pantry, and she said its hours were cut due to diminishing funds and contributions. The pantry depends on $2000 per year from the Town Budget, several small fund-raising activities, cash contributions, and food donations. The number of people who visit the Pantry has grown from 7 or 8 people a week in Fall 2008 to 27 or 28 people a week in Fall 2009. Many of those people have families. Jane said “the need is outrageous; it's awful.” She hopes this will be a temporary cutback in services.
If you are in need, you qualify to use the Food Pantry. Jane said they ask about income, but don't require proof. Even people who have an income above poverty level at times qualify for short-term help because of illness in the family that may prevent someone from working.
If you wish to donate money, send a check made out to Shandaken Food Pantry to:

PO Box 67

You can easily drop of a donation of food, etc., at the Methodist Church Hall in Phoenicia. On a Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday when the Thrift Shop is open, just go upstairs and leave your donation by the door at the back of the room. Jane suggested that in addition to food, you could donate items that are not covered by Food Stamps: toilet paper, paper towels, detergent, and personal hygene articles such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, and soap.
The Food Pantry is located in Phoenicia and it serves all residents of Shandaken.

Thanks Elizabeth for making us aware of this need!
