A tour of six gardens in the heart of the Catskills: formal landscapes, country cottage gardens, butterfly gardens, bog gardens, vegetable beds, ornamental trees and orchards.
Gardeners in Shandaken are very creative. Challenging gardeners are deer, woodchucks, rabbits and the pest insects; steep slopes, odd micro-climates, too little and/or too much rain, relentless sun or deep woodland shade.
Nevertheless, every year enthusiasts surprise us with abundant beauty and diverse gardens in these ancient mountains.
