I am heartbroken to pass on the news to you that Jay Fahey passed away this evening. He and Susan were in the Dominican Republic on their annual winter holiday. On Sunday, the day they were to return to the US, he suffered a heart attack. He was in ICU and not doing well when he suffered a second heart attack and passed away earlier today.
This is such a loss, to me personally as well as everyone else he knew in the community. Jay was warm, charming, funny, and totally outrageous! In the winter when he and Susan were in the city he would write the funniest, most over the top emails to me to entice me to visit them in their apartment. Once he even threatened to cut his own heart out with a rusty can opener if I didn't come to them immediately. So hilarious. It is inconceivable to me that someone so vibrant could be gone from this world. So very, very sad indeed. May he rest in peace.
But Susan still needs our help. Apparently their medical insurance doesn't cover them in the Dominican Republic. A friend of theirs has set up a YouCare donation page to help her cover the costs which are many thousands of dollars. Originally they were going to try and fly Jay home with the donations but now she needs the money to pay his hospital bills.
