Medical Supply Lending Shed
Recently I was reminded that the town of Shandaken has a medical supply lending shed. They have all sorts of equipment (walkers, crutches, canes) that are available to town residents. The shed has quite a big selection of some things. So if you are a senior citizen or are planning some sort of surgery and need equipment I highly recommend checking out this resource.

Nothing Here
Usually after I big weather event I try to post as quickly as possible about the totals here in Woodland Valley. But a few minutes ago I realized that I never blogged about this storm. The reason being is that it completely passed us by. We got no snow whatsoever here in Woodland Valley. So all of you second home owners who are stuck digging yourselves out in Manhattan, Long Island and New Jersey, don't worry, you won't have to do it again when you get to the Catskills. Mother Nature was kind to us this time.

Free Fly-Tying Class
The Phoenicia Library sent out an announcement of some free fishing fun being offered in early February. So even though opening day is still fairly far off, if you are so inclined, you can get gather with other piscatorial enthusiasts to get prepared for the good times ahead. Here is the library's announcement.

The Jerry Bartlett Memorial Angling Collection at the Phoenicia Library are offering their annual fly tying workshop on Saturday, Feb 13th from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm at the Phoenicia Library at 48 Main Street in Phoenicia, NY 12464.
The classes open to all aged 14 or above are free; participants must provide their own equipment. There are a number of vises for youngsters to use. Feathers and hooks will be supplied. Experienced tiers are welcome to sit and tie along. People who wish to come observe this art are welcome.
The fly tying classes are led by local licensed guide, Hank Rope, with assistance from members of Trout Unlimited. Fly tying is a fantastic combination of art, science, history, culture and skill and we will teach you how! Registration is required. Call Hank Rope at 845-254 5904 to register.
Since 1995, the Jerry Bartlett Angling Collection at the Phoenicia Library, has offered workshops, presentations and special events celebrating the rich heritage of Catskill trout fishing and the healthy ecosystem on which it depends. All Is Well
Yesterday's storm is now fully passed and the resulting snow is not that deep. I would say we only got about 2-3 inches of very fully, light powder. It was easily moved. I cleaned it all off my porches and my walkway (with the help of my leaf blower) in about 15 minutes. The effort involved was minimal.
Today we are seeing intermittent clouds and sun in the valley and the temps are in the teens. So the cold seems to be settling in a little.
Woodland Valley Road has been plowed, salted and sanded several times and so I am sure that the road is fine to travel. But with snow and ice around everyone needs to drive carefully anyway.
So that's all for now folks. I will keep you posted if we get anymore bad weather.

Weather For Weekenders
The temperatures in Woodland Valley have warmed up from the single digit cold blast we experienced over the past week. Right now my thermometer hovers just under 30 degrees.
There is a coating of snow and ice over most things so pathways can be treacherous. Be careful when walking from your car to your house. The forecast for the next couple of days is for some snow flurries tomorrow and then for rain on Sunday. So things might get more slippery over the weekend. But I am hoping the rain will melt the snow and ice away.
Woodland Valley Road is clear and so getting to your house won't be a problem. But there has been a fair amount of deer around so drive slowly and keep your eyes peeled. Have a great weekend everyone!

Shandaken Police Alert
This was posted on the Shandaken Facebook page this morning. Even though this is in the western end of town we should all remember to lock our cars!
SHANDAKEN POLICE NOTICE Members of the Shandaken Police report that over the last twenty four hours they have handled numerous larcenies from unlocked vehicles in the Big Indian and Pine Hill area. This is just a reminder that theft from unlocked vehicles is a crime of opportunity. Do not leave valuables in your car, and LOCK YOUR CAR!
Items taken thus far have included loose change, credit cards and medication. The Shandaken Police in conjunction with the Ulster County Sheriff's Office and the New York State Police are working on numerous leads at this time. Should anyone have any information please call us at (845) 688-9902.

Flurries and Cold Temperatures
After a warm start to the winter season, we have had a run of seasonally cold temperatures for the last few days. There have been light snow flurries on and off as well. When I woke up this morning there was a dusting of snow over everything. Nothing major, under an inch, but still a sign that winter is digging in a little harder.
Tonight the forecast is for temps in the single digits. It will be the coldest night so far this season. But, after this brief cold snap, the weather should warm again into the 30's and 40's for the rest of the week. But we will see how that goes.
In the meantime, should you be headed this way, please know that some of the wintery mix that fell last week has frozen solid. So there are patches of slippery snow and ice everywhere. Watch your step as you exit your car and go into your house!
