Catching Up Again

Once again I find myself a bit behind on my posting. So this morning I have put up several different announcements and news items involving or affecting Woodland Valley or WCA members. I usually only post one or possibly two things every other day but today I had four. So please scroll down to see all that I have put up to the blog. I wouldn't want you to miss anything.

Jimmy McGrath Retiring

This news came out about a month ago but I just realized this morning that people who are not in the valley all the time may not have heard it.

After 34 years of service, Town of Shandaken Police Chief Jimmy McGrath is planning on retiring. I am linking to an article in the Kingston Daily Freeman regarding this announcement.

Thanks to Jimmy for all those years of service to the community! We all wish you a happy and healthy retirement!

Thursday Night Pickin' Circle At The ESRM

Just reminding everyone that likes to play acoustic music that there is a "Pickin' Circle" every Thursday night starting at 7pm right here in Phoenicia at the Empire State Railway Museum. WCA member and ESRM President Dakin Morehouse recently sent me this message about the ongoing gathering.

Thursday is coming 'round again and that means we'll be a pickin' an singing again.
Where? Why down at the historic 1899 RR Station in Phoenicia.
'Twould be mighty fine if you'd join us making that arched wooden ceiling resonate with acoustic music.

Father's Day Rumination From Boreegard

Here is a timely lyrical offering from one of Woodland Valley's poet laureates, Mike O'Neil, aka Boreegard. Happy Father's Day to all.

CARPE DIEM PAPA

(or the Rise and Fall of Boreegard’s Empire)

In Caesar’s time,
Away back then,
The Emperor ruled,
By law or whim.

And just as Julie,
Cracked his whip,
Today I’ll sail,
My imperial ship.

It’s federal law,
Said L.B.J.,
That daddies rule,
On Father’s Day.

I’ll be benign,
Not rant nor rave,
For when Monday dawns,
Once again I’m a slave.

Re-Vamped Bulletin Board

Sorry for the unusually long break in my posts. I was traveling in the last few days and had limited internet access. Usually I pre-schedule things for the blog if I think that will be the case but this was unexpected.

But I digress, the real news is about the bulletin board on Main St next to Key Bank in Phoenicia. Recently Joyce Grant and some other local folks cleaned it up and re-vamped it. It had gone unused for a long time but with the new changes it has been brought back to life. Now they can use it to post flyers for current events. So be sure to keep an eye out for notices posted there. Since we don't have a town newspaper it is important to be aware of all the sources of local information.

Wonderful Announcement For The Library

This Saturday, May 31st, the Phoenicia Library announced a $200,000 donation from Jay and Mindy Jacobs through the TLC Foundation. That puts the library well over it's goal for the rebuilding fund! Yipee!!! Thanks so much to the Jacobs family. Who, as neighbors and owners of Camp Timberlake, are already valued members of this community. In my opinion the library is one of the central places in this town. Helping to rebuild the building and enhance their services will make a very real difference to our town!!
