On Track With Tommy Healy

WCA member Tommy Healy sent me a photo and some great video from his most recent trip with his Fairmont track car. For those of you who don't know, a Fairmont track car is a small vehicle with train wheels that was produced by Fairmont Railway Motors of Fairmont, Minnesota. They were used by railroads for Maintenance of Way purposes. The cars are no longer produced but are a great part of railroad history. They are collected by many people and used for recreational purposes.

Here is what Tommy had to say about his adventures:

Last weekend I toured with the North American Rail car Operators association http://www.narcoa.org in my Fairmont track car.  NARCOA is an organized group that gets permission from railroads to operate on their lines.  We did a 160 mile trip on the Lehigh Valley/Norfolk Southern Railroad. Leaving from the New York/Pennsylvania town of Sayre and headed south into Pennsylvania. The video gives you a little bit of an idea of what the run was like.  Many Railroads in the North East run along rivers as the grades were easier to negotiate versus going over mountains.  Along with that, come the fantastic views.  The video below is one small example as we cross over one of the bridges over the Susquehanna River.
